The Press Release:
NY NOW®, the modern wholesale market for retailers and specialty buyers seeking diversity and discovery, has decided, in light of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and after careful consideration, to postpone the 2020 Summer Market which had been scheduled for August 8-12, 2020, at the Jacob Javits Center. With the interest of the retail community in mind, and to provide buyers a strong, convenient, and varied Market Week—NY NOW and Shoppe Object are working together to reschedule the New York Market Week to October 2020. The NY NOW Fall Edition will showcase at the Javits Center on October 18 – 20, 2020 and Shoppe Object will stage at Pier 36 October 20 – 22.

“NY NOW’s role is to bring buyers and brands together safely in a spirit of discovery and unity. With that in mind, we are rescheduling our August event and will instead run a NY NOW Fall Edition in October,” said Tim Hart, SVP Retail, NY NOW. “We are pleased to coordinate our change of dates with the organizers of Shoppe Object so that buyers experience a robust and convenient Market Week in October. We will continue to monitor the progress of the COVID-19 pandemic and review our plans as required. It’s, of course, disappointing that our community will not be able to gather in August, but we look forward to coming together in October,” continued Hart.

“Like the rest of the world, we are closely monitoring the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic and doing our part to act responsibly,” said Jesse James, co-Founder of Shoppe Object. “While we had hoped to activate in August, we feel more confident about the possibility of producing Shoppe Object with a mid-Autumn date. It’s our hope that by then, we will have moved into a safer period where we are able to gather with appropriate precautions in place and an eye toward moving forward.”

The health and safety of our customers, employees, and partners continues to be the show’s highest priority. NY NOW will coordinate plans for a safe show with the Javits Center based on health and safety guidelines published by the CDC, WHO, and relevant state and local governments and public health authorities. ABOUT SHOPPE OBJECT:
Shoppe Object is New York’s semiannual independent home and gift show. With a curated roster of visionary brands and makers presented in an elevated setting, Shoppe Object is the ultimate resource for premier merchants and influential editors. Born of a vanguard spirit to celebrate and service the progressive retail and design community, Shoppe Object is a gathering of fellowship, an expression of ideas, and a physical manifestation of a shared ethos — dedication to, and reverence for the good, the beautiful, the inspired, the innovative, and the well-made. Shoppe Object debuted to the trade in August 2018 and was founded by Jesse James of Aesthetic Movement, and Deirdre Maloney and Minya Quirk, partners in Bast & Bell and co-founders of the apparel tradeshow Capsule that was acquired by Reed exhibitions in 2013. Over a glass of wine on the Lower East Side, they imagined a scenario that combined their first-hand knowledge of the evolving home and gift market with their tradeshow expertise, and Shoppe Object was born.

Piercing Ken Thoughts: Considering the last few weeks that we’ve had here in New York State based on the deadly Covid-19 outbreak (aka Coronavirus Pandemic), it doesn’t surprise me that this event that was to happen in August has been pushed back a few more months to a hopefully safer and healthier October. This has not been a good time for anyone with concerns about this continuing virus and how best to stay safe from it. I’ve been posting either postponement or cancellation notices all month and I was looking forward to this event since it’s a wonderful trade show. While it’s not open to the general public I make sure to load up our Official Instagram so our readers know what is coming from the amazing vendors that we interact with. Where you a member of the industry that was considering attending this show? Will you be in attendance for the new days that they’ve lined out? You don’t have to decide today since there are more important things to worry about at the moment. As I close this up I say please stay healthy and follow any regulations that your region decrees. See you again soon.
