Hello again my friends and welcome to what I am sure will be a fun read for you all. So we are once again celebrating the Toy Insider’s “Holiday Of Play” event and after three virtual happenings this one was back to being in-person and I was so excited about that. The pandemic made large gatherings like this difficult to do but many are slowly coming back and we will have New York Comic Con and Anime NYC returning after each bypassed a year.
For the past couple of years, The Toy Insider has held the “Holiday Of Play” at a venue called Current down in the Chelsea Piers. Its a smaller event space than the one used by their Sweet Suite and hence a more exclusive invite to get.
Now I mentioned there having been a few virtual events, with the last one being their “Sweet Suite” for 2021. I was a participant at this and documented the observations as best as possible in a summary you can find HERE. Now let’s go into the “Holiday Of Play”.
A friendly family of Snow people greeted all those who were invited here today. What a charming display this was.
I’ll start off with some of the coolness coming from Crayola. Kids today are so fortunate with the amazing amount of products they are releasing. These paper butterflies are definitely going to bring out the creative in your family’s artistic ones.
This light-up activity board is for a younger set for sure but very interesting and can help awaken the creative side in your youngest.
I first saw their “Scribble Scrubble” products at one of the Toy Fairs and was in love with the product. It’s super cute and looks like lots of fun. The kiddies can play with the figurines and color them with special markers and then put them into little bathtubs and scrub them clean to start all over. There are all sorts of characters now and this is a recommendation from me for sure.
The folks at Breyer have a wonderful line of horse figurines and each year they offer up a special exclusive one. 2021 finds them introducing the toy industry to “Hope”. I think its safe to say that we can all use a little of this after the disaster that 2020 was.
Playmates Toys was present and showcasing several items from their “Miraculous Ladybug” line of action figures. This superhero duo is for a younger set but I like how it raises an awareness of the superhero and comic book medium into the growing geek.
The folks at LEGO have always managed to impress me with their product developments and super cool licenses. I stopped by their table to see what was what and they had a nice mix of stuff for the younger and older folks like myself.
No you are not imagining things my readers, that is indeed the apartment from “Seinfeld” made out of LEGO bricks. It even has the whole cast and you can build this while binge-watching “Seinfeld” on Netflix. That sounds like a good plan and something for a time lapse video. Hmmm. Ideas.
Though I play drums I kinda want this to see how long it would take me to assemble. Trust me this only looks easy and can take you a bit of time if you aren’t paying attention. I think all Rockers would want this for their desk.
The Bubble Lick stuff was interesting and yes its exactly what it sounds like. The bubbles are edible and rather tasty if you can catch one. I tried this to limited success but think it would be a hit with the family circle.
This drawing robot is named Artie Max and he comes care of Learning Resources. He works via an app that you use on your mobile and so many things are doing that nowadays that its becoming a standard.
So here was something new and awesome. These are the “House Monsters” that come care of Luki Lab and they looked great. The quick 411 is that they are monsters that live around the house in various places. This line had a whole “Monsters Inc” vibe to me which I loved. If I can get more information about them going forward I will share with you here on “The Chronicles”. Heck, I kinda like them for myself as well.
Here’s some cool games for the family with the original “Bananagrams” and their brand-new “Countaloupe”. I tried my hand at the second one and didn’t do too well.
These are the Purse Pets and super cute. I can see these going over well with the Cosplayers at a number of the conventions. Definitely the Anime NYC one for sure. NYCC maybe but that’s more suited to superheroing cosplay.
This whole table had products from the Ryan’s World line of coolness. For those who don’t know the name, Ryan is a child influencer and is super huge popular on the YouTube Channel that his family moderates for him. I am talking millions and millions of views and subscribers. I will come back here shortly but was now famished and running about trying to get something to eat before the appetizers ran out.
I’ll wrap this part of the adventure up now and return tomorrow with the second and final installment. Those of you who follow all my New York Comic Con and Anime NYC convention coverages know how I like to add at most “50” images into each unique post. Until I come back please click through to some of the links provided below to learn more about the products that will be coming down the pike.
