Recently, “The Chronicles of Piercing Ken” was on point as attending press for the annual BroadwayCon, which had returned to the winter months and while originally schedule for the New York Hilton Midtown, would instead be happening at the New York Marriott Marquis right smack dab in Times Square. I’ve been attending this one since 2018 and always have managed to have a good time.

The conventions co-founder, Melissa Anelli, leads the teams of Mischief Management and came out first as a part of the opening ceremony. We sadly learned from her that their usual host Ben Cameron would not be participating in the show which was a bit of a bummer since Ben is so fun and very engaging with the fans across all three days.

The assembled theatre-geeks were then introduced to the lovely hostess Melanie Sutrathada who is an actor, podcaster and content creator as well. Do all the things I always say.

Ms. Sutrathada introduced those in the hall to Sergio Trujillo, the director of the play “Real Women Have Curves”.

Cast members from this show came onto the stage to perform a couple of scenes from the show but these were not captured on video to avoid any copyright conflicts.

Here’s a pair from “What A Wonderful World”, a play about Louis Armstrong. Last year we saw James Iglehart share some numbers from it and these two knocked it out of the park.

Then it was time for a no longer all that new show, and one that I have not gotten around to seeing yet “Six”. These are all of the currently performing queens and they did the main number which I did record as a part of the opening ceremonies.

When Melanie returned to the stage she introduced performers from a surely quirky production called “Saw: The Musical”.

Truth be told I never anticipated seeing a musical based on the horror franchise “Saw” but here we are. They had a puppet depicting the insidious main character from the films and as I enjoyed this I realized that I had never seen a single film from the “Saw” franchise.

The “Saw” puppet was awesome.

Since all of us were sitting, Melanie did the same and hey I don’t mind her resting since there was so much to do.

Then it was time for a little bit from “Titanique”. This one sounds fun.

Next up from the “First Look” came some music from “And Juliet”.

Now it was onto some cosplayers and exhibitors. If you’ve followed any of the convention reports that PiercingMetal does, then you already know just how much I like to capture these features. I won’t be naming every cosplay but I do love how everyone is doing a particular production.

Okay this young lady was a terrifying Beetlejuice. This was more like “The Walking Dead” meets “Beetlejuice” if you asked me but hey you didn’t ;p

Watch out Christine, the Phantom is always somewhere around here.

This young lady’s “Six” outfit was so awesome she could have been a stand in for the performance.

Even a young Elpheba was there. Did you see the movie “Wicked” yet? I didn’t but I had seen the Broadway show and that might have been enough for me.

Another Christine with a crocheted Phantom. Clever.

The show had a tarot reader. I found that surprising but they were friendly.

Our friends for many BroadwayCons, the team from Ripley-Grier Studios. I need to ask them to explore the place one of these days in the future. What do you readers think? Should I do that for the Tube of You? Would that be interesting to you?

The team behind “Saw: The Musical”.

So I loved “The Phantom Of The Opera” show and this young lady wins an early cosplay of the day by being the famed chandelier. Perhaps we may frighten away the ghost of so many years ago with a little illumination IYKYK

Two favorites from past BroadwayCon’s in one awesome photo. That’s Monica from Pinbill and Brie who works with LenLenCreates.

The one and the only Melanie Sutrathada. Though she was rushing off to her next agenda item, she did pause for quick chat and some photos which will be up on the Channel as soon as I catch up to everything ahead of them.

So that’s going to wrap up my first chapter for the 2025 BroadwayCon. As you know, I generally like to cap these things at “50” images and do a day by day examination. My schedule only will permit me two days of BWC this year so what I will do with the photos is very likely continue with my second day findings without parsing it by days. Who knows, I am just starting to make sense of all the content. Until we next meet right here on “The Chronicles” you can spend some time checking out the people and vendors mentioned in this post. You can also help support our own cause by visiting the social media used by the outlet care of our Official Linktree. See you next time.
