Happy 17th Birthday To My Cat Spooke (3/24/2019)

Hello my friends, I am happy to be blogging today in celebration about it being my beloved black cat Spooke’s Seventeenth birthday. As I’ve noted before, she was born in my first apartment over on Fort Hamilton Parkway and has been a part of my household ever since. She was the offspring of my still very much missed Momma cat Shadow who I lost in 2015. Spooke was initially kept to keep her mother company and she has not really lost any of her amazingly pleasant disposition. I’ll repeat myself from last year with the notion on how awesome it is to have had her for so long and its just amazing to know her actual birthday. Shadow had her kittens way back when on a night when I went to see the band Power Windows over at Peggy O’Neill’s bar not far from my house. When I arrived home at holy mackerel o’clock in the morning, there were kittens in the box with her. This photo below was Spooke just a short while ago. She’s pretty much adopted this part of the couch since I usually go there and I get meowed at when I am there and she wants it.

For the annual photo I didn’t have many ideas on what to do and I had envisioned something with several cards with some kind of cat themed dialogue but the idea was gone before I could figure something cool out. That made me just doodle a “17” and position it behind her on this spot. As you can see, she was not amused by my jostling about and calling her attention to the camera for the shot. While she is seventeen in people years, in cat she is actually 85 so she is very senior and allowed a little bit of cranky if she deems it necessary. Though still very talkative to me, she is slowing down a little bit and doesn’t bolt around the apartment as much as she once did. That’s fine because at times she was a blur when she did that. One of her favorite things to do is look at the laptop screen while I am typing away and just lazing on my shoulder while doing this. I need to snap a shot of that and add it into this post. I can add that she’s gotten to hear more Metal and Hard Rock than most of my friends give a chance to but don’t worry I am not blasting it too loud here since I have to focus on it for articles and absorb any subtlties. Don’t worry about her though because when she finds too much noise being the case in the living room she retreats to the bedroom and takes that over. That is where the next shot came from. As I’m posting this in the afternoon I can say that Spooke has already eaten some of her favorite food and she remains a crazy for gravy cat so I tend to buy those from the market more than the others. She will also get a few extra treats for the day as time progresses for being good.

Of course in these days of everything being showcased on Instagram, or as The Influencers would say “The Gram”, I gave Spooke her moment in the spotlight. This shot was taken yesterday before I went off to a couple of functions. We hope that you click the “<3" on the image since she deserves it.

Thanks again for listening, I hope that all of you readers with furry babies are spoiling yours as well when they have birthdays or anniversaries to being yours since they are so important to our daily life. Spooke means the world to me and I love her very much and tell her this every day. I like to think that after 17 years that she understands.

Happy 16th Birthday To My Cat Spooke (3/24/2018)

Hello my friends, I am blogging today in celebration as its the Sweet Sixteenth birthday of my beloved black cat Spooke who was born in my previous apartment on this very day. Since this blog is about my own personal world in addition to my many media adventures I like to showcase her on the site at moments such as this. It’s been awesome to have her for so long and to know her actual birthday and while I’d say she was going to be spoiled today, she pretty much runs the apartment anyway so there isn’t much more that I can do. Maybe I will give her an extra treat or three after her supper.

For the annual photo I had to be a little clever as I didn’t manage to get the number candles that make this easier. Instead I “hid” half of my 2016 glasses that I used back then for a New Years Day photo 🙂 Spooke is still rather spry for her age and based on how cat years go she is “81”. She is still a very talkative cat and I am pretty sure that she has listened to more diverse Heavy Metal than many of my friends based on my other website pursuits. We only did this one photo today and now she is off to her favorite perch in the apartment near the window and radiator. I’ve stocked up on a bunch of the foods she likes the most and especially the ones with lots of gravy since she has been a gravy girl since her infancy. As far as new toys go, she doesn’t go crazy for them lately and only opts for knocking some of the balls around or carrying the catnip mouse. She probably does this when I am not here since the stuff is never in the same place as when I left. Okay, thanks for listening, I hope all of you readers with furry babies are spoiling yours as well since they are so important to our world. Spooke means the world to me and I love her very much.

Happy 15th Birthday To My Cat Spooke (3/24/2017)

I’d like to take a moment and say that today is pretty awesome for me since its the 15th birthday of my sweet black cat Spooke who was born in my old apartment on this very day. I’ve had her since her birth and she is quite the important part of my world. I like to think that she is pretty spoiled every day but today she is going to get a little more of that since she is a very good and loving pet.

She was enjoying some lounging on my pants as you can see in the photo but I was trying to get her attention for the necessary photo and to show her one of the gifts that I picked up for her to celebrate the day a little better.

Happy National Black Cat Day 2016

banner-national-black-cat-day-2016

Today is National Black Cat Day for this year and according to the Facebook post that I read cites…

“Did you know that sadly, black or black and white cats take on average 22% longer to find a forever home in rehoming centres. Help us to raise awareness and celebrate National black cat day by posting a photo of your black cat, or simply show your appreciation for these beautiful felines”

Below is my lovely girl Spooke who I have had in my company since her birth some fourteen and a half years ago. She is still rather spry which I am happy to report and is very, very friendly and one of the chattiest cats that I have ever had. She “talks” to me even more than Shadow used to when we had her. I took this only a short time before the post was scribbled together. Spooke is the offspring of my cat Shadow who passed away just about a year ago now and yes I still miss her very much. The memory remains after so many years with her in my company. In case you wondered this is Spooke’s side of the couch for the most part 🙂

My pretty and very good Spooke is going to continue enjoying National Black Cat day by spending it on either my couch or the bed or perhaps even the chair that she likes most. There are days when I have seen her on all three of the apartments offerings. So be it. It’s her day. While I am not sure of anyone’s pet situation or interest, I must stress that a cat is a great NYC apartment pet. Less demanding than a pup and less space. Consider rescuing from a local shelter if you have space in your home and heart for a furbaby that needs you just as much. Think about it.

If you Tweet or Instagram your own Black Cat today use the hashtag of #blackcatday so all can get a chance to see your beloved feline friend.

Happy 14th Birthday To My Spooke Cat (3/24/2016)

I just wanted to take a moment to let all of our readers know that my no longer little cat Spooke has reached her fourteenth year. Today is her birthday and I have had her since birth from her mother Shadow and both can be seen in the photo below. This was taken when Spooke was only about two weeks old and that is her brother KISS to the right. He lives somewhere in Brooklyn I am told and sadly Shadow left us back in November of 2015. We still both miss her very much.

Since this is a great birthday to reach, I wanted to share that early shot and this one which has always been one of my favorites from when she was about a month and a half. I loved that she had blue eyes at first but they would become green as she got older. She was one of four kittens that Shadow had and I kept her for company to the mother cat while putting the siblings up for adoption.

I took this shot yesterday when she was trying to claim the chair from me. She didn’t want to join me, she just wanted it for herself so of course since I didn’t really need to be in the chair I went off to do other things. Who could resist these eyes after all.

Spooke is a very talkative cat and understands me with a handful of phrases which is fun. She is still very playful and seems to be healthy. She has never been anything but pleasant in demeanor and is spoiled as much as she allows herself to be. I didn’t rush to get another cat when Shadow passed on and instead opted to leave Spooke as queen of the house. I love her dearly, she is my girl. Happy Birthday again. Love your pets my friend. Its important stuff.
