Remembering “Star Wars: The Magic Of Myth” Exhibit @ Brooklyn Museum (Part 1)

Today is “Star Wars Day” so “May The Fourth Be With You” LOL. I realize that its a corny statement but hey, the world of geek rallies behind it and so do I. In honor of this special day for one of my very favorite films, I dug up some old photos from the 2002 exhibit “Star Wars: The Magic Of Myth” that I attended with friends at the Brooklyn Museum. The exhibit was fantastic and showcased costumes, models and puppets from all of the “Star Wars” films up until that time which would have been “Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace” as the latest since “Star Wars: Episode II: Attack Of The Clones” had only just opened a couple of weeks before we attended this exhibit. Armed with the photographic technology of the time my friend James and I wandered and snapped a lot of photos which you can see below. The order is not as uniform as I would do nowadays but remember this was from a time before I did the photo journalist stuff. Hope you enjoy the presentation.

“Khristos voskres! Voistinu voskres! On This Orthodox Easter 2016

Today is the Orthodox Easter Celebration if you are Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox and so forth. Historically speaking this was my Grandmother’s biggest of the religious celebrations and part of the service was the proclamation of “”Khristos voskres! Voistinu voskres” which is translated to “Christ is Risen, Indeed He is Risen” (I am ancestrally part Russian but speak barely a sentence being a third generation piece of the familial puzzle). Nan used to attend services at a beautiful cathedral in Greenpoint/Williamsburg Brooklyn where she lived all of her life and it was called the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Our Lord. It’s quite a bit to say but based on its wonderful structure and interior it works. Though I am not trying to be overly religious in this post, I wanted to use it to remember Nan on her holiday and to share images that I discovered were taken back in 2012 when I was last inside the place. I used a very small (but handy) Sony Cybershot and I didn’t have a lot of light to work with or time but I snapped away and intended to use the images much sooner than I did.

“Fiery Fun” @ The 4th Annual NYC Hot Sauce Expo (4/24/2016): Part 1

Yes my friends it was that time of year again for the NYC Hot Sauce Expo and if you can believe it, we are now at the 4th Annual Expo. It was once again being held at the spacious Brooklyn Expo Center which I love as an event space since its in my way back in history neighborhood of Greenpoint and is not too far from the waterfront which offers attendees a magnificent view of Manhattan. I’ll share some images of that in a post that will follow the Expo coverage. With this year’s convention I’ve decided to offer it up here on The Chronicles because truth be told its more in line with our other adventures for this site. Some of the longer time readers might remember that I covered the first three events over on PiercingMetal.com and those interested in the historical side of the event need only click HERE to see the gamut.

My Foodie Media Mission begins with my running into Purple Pam who is a Rock singer from NYC. She fronts a kickass group called The Flesh Eaters and I’ll try to get some music reviewed on the other site. Here we find Pam pitching her own brand of hot sauce and it sure did have a kick.

Today I was going to start by exploring what was happening in the VIP section before it got too crowded.  It’s better to share its awesome offerings without a crowd pushing into you while you hope to get a shot.  Oh and I mean one with the camera.  This time around of couse.  Here are the lovely ladies repping the Stoli Vodka brand.

Testing Etymotic’s ER-20XS High-Fidelity Earplugs

etymotic logo

Some time ago I did one of those Public Service Announcements about wearing earplugs if you go to a lot of loud events like concerts and sporting things which was posted HERE. A couple of months ago I was investigating some options for our media enterprise and resultant of said perusing received a pair of Etymotic Research’s High Fidelity earplugs for my use. I’ve penned a few thoughts about them below the image. These are the actual earplugs I have been using but don’t you worry they are clean. I promise.

etymotic earplugs, earplugs,

For many months I had been using the Flents earplugs that were discussed in that other narrative but these Etymotic ones are of a different caliber and of course a higher price as well. As opposed to being soft foamy types, these are ribbed sectors on a harder piece of plastic and there is even a small grip to the end which allows for easier placement and removal. There is a cord included with the pair but I had to remove this since it got all tangled up in my camera strap and caused them to be pulled out right at a critical point in a recent Megadeth concert. Trust me my friends that is NOT the place you suddenly want to have your eardrums exposed. Like most Metal shows they are pumping at a solid 120db and I know this for a fact since I’ve been using a handy little app on my Galaxy Note 4. You readers should download that as well to see what you are exposing yourself too. So back to the earplugs – They are on the comfortable side which is important to me and while they are protecting me from the larger audio sonics I didn’t feel as though the show itself was being compromised which is also rather important since I am attending these shows for the sake of music reporting.
