PiercingKen Goes To Toy Fair 2016

Logo - Toy Fair - 2016

For the past six years, my PiercingMetal.com outlet has been attending The American International Toy Fair as a representative of the media and for those new to the presentations, let me explain that this massive, industry only convention is one that showcases the latest and greatest toy and gaming offerings from the worlds most amazing companies.  In the past I’ve mentioned in these little signposts that the coverage done was usually focused on the super-hero, monster and science fiction properties since that is what our Metal demographic seems to enjoy the most.  Last year, I tried something different and tested the waters by adding some posts from the 2015 Convention on this site because the items in the photos didn’t fall under my main websites overall niche.  With so many of our PiercingKen.com readers being family people it made a lot of sense and going forward I hope to continue to offer up a number of visuals from Toy Fair right here.  Stay tuned and thanks as always for your kind attention.

Welcome Winter Storm Jonas :)

Winter Storm Jonas had started laying down what it was bringing late on Friday evening and that meant that a lot of cancellations and rescheduling of things to do was going to happen as our city officials began to close things down or limit service for the safety of our area residents. For me this meant the moving of the Lamb Of God concert (which will be featured on PiercingMetal.com once its attended) and the partial cancellation of the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest convention that I was heading to on Saturday but despite these changes I knew that getting some images for our readers in the warmer climates where such a phenomenon does not happen at all. The photo below was taken at around 1:30am from the apartment, it was already some serious downfall and seemed steady.

After the necessary sleep, I shot another image at around 8:30am and felt that some wandering for the purposes of this piece would be better to do soon and before it got too difficult to walk around out there. This was going to take some coffee.

Presenting PiercingKen’s “Best 9” Instagrams For 2015

instagram, instagram logo, social media logos

I’d been using Instagram as a personal account for my PiercingKen.com site for a few months before I decided to have one for the Metal website and it’s really a lot of fun for me since its an immediate glimpse into what I am seeing at the very second for the most part. Now while there are less than the PM.com one, the full tally is about 761 photos. Thanks to the fun website link which you will find at the end of this narrative, I was able to learn what my “9” most popular posted images were in 2015 and I wanted to share that with you below. Here is the graphic of those nine images.

instagram, piercingken on instagram,

The selections made me smile as it featured my beloved felines along with my home stomping grounds of Brooklyn and a few food related things. All of them a part of my personal world much like this blog itself. As with my PiercingMetal Instagram account, all of the items you see here are 100% original content and I’d have it no other way. If you click this image above you will be brought to our official account and I hope you choose to give it a follow and start perusing the images that have come before. Your click will help decide the ones that win this sort of thing when we get to the end of this year in another 362 days. I hope you enjoy it and know that I always appreciate the support. I’m looking to making this a productive year on PiercingKen and all its socials. Let’s do this together.

spookeclaus_122515_01

Spooke Claus and I would like to wish all of our friends and readers a very “Merry Christmas”. Have a wonderful day with those who mean the most to you and make sure to check in with those you might not have heard from in awhile. A text and email is always appreciated around this time I am certain. Now its time for the countdown to the end of 2015 to begin. See you next time oh and before you ask, this shot took about 25 minutes to do, she did not like the hat all that much. She was given extra treats as a reward.

Thinking Of John Lennon 35 Years Later

Today is the 35th Anniversary of John Lennon’s death. It’s a terrible moment in NYC history that still rings loudly in the minds of those who were of an age to experience and remember it happening. I was a sophomore in High School at the time and I remembered hearing it on 1010 WINS news and that it had made my parents very upset. My young wannabe musician self at the time had trouble grasping with the fact that a fan had apparently taken this great musician from the world. What a sad, sad shame I recalled. Friends at school sported black arm bands but I did not since I was unaware that any were going to do this and thinking back on this pre-Internet point in history, I probably would have never found a black arm band at 7am in the morning. Today probably in five minutes as the answer was likely a text message or Facebook post away.

The other day I took a museum trip with my friend Skeleton Pete and as we walked past The Dakota (where this incident had actually happened) he pointed out that Strawberry Fields was just across the street a little ways. Oddly enough I had never ever been there before and since our journey was one aimed at photography in the first place, there could be no better first stop than the “Imagine” mosaic at Strawberry Fields in Central Park.

The small space of Strawberry Fields is listed as being a quiet zone with no musical instruments allowed but that didn’t prevent the dude with an acoustic guitar singing “Imagine” at all. He was pretty good I will admit and its probably the most respectful number to offer up in this area if you had to think of one. The sunlight was not on my side when I stopped here and thanks to a mostly overcast sky was vexing my phones camera but I snagged these and feel they did the trick perfectly. The mosaic is beautiful in its simplicity don’t you think?
