As readers of “The Chronicles” Lifestyle and Entertainment Blog know, I’ve been adding a LOT of film and television content to the site over the last few months and while I tend to do that on PiercingMetal.com as well, the focus there is with the superhero and monster or science fiction related releases. That said, there are times when I must repeat myself on “The Chronicles” and with that being said let’s copy and paste our narrative about this brand new trailer.
“I’ve been waiting with baited breath since this past Sunday when I learned that we would get the first official trailer for the upcoming Walt Disney Studios/Marvel Studios motion picture “Captain Marvel”. Just a short time ago, the trailer was revealed on the “Good Morning America” program on ABC and now I am sharing it with you all. Let’s take a look. I’ve also loaded in some casting and premise for good measure”.
The Premise: Set in the mid-1990s, Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers, a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, as she turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes and joins Starforce, an elite Kree military team, before returning home with new questions about her past and identity when the Earth is caught in the center of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds. It was way back in March that I broadcast the first teaser look at the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures feature “Mary Poppins Returns” and if you didn’t see that clip please click HERE since it might be a tad different and there is a promo poster that I’ve only used on that post as well. Here now is the first full trailer for the return of the timeless character made famous by the great Julie Andrews. Emily Blunt seems to have some magic in her so let’s take a look shall we? Of course we shall.
The Premise: Set in 1930s London, Jane and Michael Banks are now grown-up, with Michael still living in the house on Cherry Tree Lane. He lives there with his three children, Annabel, John, and George, and the housekeeper named Ellen. After Michael suffers a personal loss, Mary Poppins comes back to the Banks family with street lamplighter Jack, and eccentric cousin Topsy. Rebooting a classic property isn’t something new at all and the practice even hits classic animated series. The latest is a reboot of the “She-Ra Princess Of Power” which was a spin-off of “He-Man and The Masters Of The Universe”. The new series will stream exclusively on Netflix and is aimed at a slightly younger audience. So, for the glory of Greyskull, I give you the teaser trailer for “She-Ra and the Princesses Of Power”.
The Premise: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power follows Adora, an orphan raised by the Horde, an evil army led by Hordak, who rules the planet Etheria with an iron fist. One day, after getting lost in the woods, Adora finds a magic sword that transforms her into the titular Princess of Power, She-Ra. After realizing the suffering that the Horde has inflicted on Etheria and its inhabitants, Adora joins the Resistance in the fight against the Horde through rebuilding the Princess Alliance, a group of other magical girls that once all opposed Hordak. Adora’s newfound allegiance to the Resistance pits her against her former best friend Catra, whose sense of abandonment, malicious ambitions, and the disappearance of her former friend enables her to rise in the ranks of the Horde to become the new heroine’s mortal enemy. Hey there my readers of “The Chronicles”, I’m taking a moment out of the day to share some cool news with you all about my PiercingMetal.com side of the fence. You might already know that the website is now more than thirteen years old after celebrating its online anniversary this past April but did you know that the Tumblr microblogging account that we use is nine years old? Well it is and I’ll share more about this down below the photo.
Before you ask why we are talking about something dedicated to the Metal and Geek site here on “The Chronicles”, the newbies to our offerings should know that this kind of thing is par for the course over here. Not only do I like to serve up interesting content to you with this outlet, but I also like to bring you more into the creative process that is involved in being a web-based member of the press. When my brand started to build up a little steam it made sense to lock out the identity on other mediums. This is why we have a focused Twitter, Instagram and YouTube as well. Our Tumblr is pretty straightforward and only serves as a feed to the content found on the main website. The good thing is that it often picks up a site graphic and the tags which makes it easier to be found. When readers find something they like they need to click the link and go over to the main website so I am not losing traffic at all. At the time of this announcement there are about 3000 posts over there and that’s cool. At the end of the day it helps with website outreach and there are times when I will share notable things from “The Chronicles” there as well. The link is below if you use the medium and enjoy PiercingMetal. These days you can’t trust that Facebook will find you alerted to newness so you will definitely see it there. Thanks for listening and now we return to the regularly scheduled narratives. See you again soon.
Update 10/1/2020: Since the time of this announcement, the PiercingMetal Tumblr has been rebranded as the Ken Pierce Media Tumblr and all links now reflect this change. This rebranding makes it all the more comprehensive and entertaining going forward.
If you walked the streets of NYC over the last dozen or so years, you might recall that bins such as these pictured below would be lined up together on the sidewalks and be filled to the brim with free newspapers such as “The New York Press” and the legendary “The Village Voice”. It was almost a year ago that I shared the news on PiercingMetal about the final issue of “The Voice” being published (which you can reflect on HERE if interested). Today there was much sadder news as the entire shebang will be ending and NO new content will be published effective immediately. The Official Statement from owner Peter Barbey is below.
“This is a sad day for The Village Voice and for millions of readers, In recent years, the Voice has been subject to the increasingly harsh economic realities facing those creating journalism and written media. Like many others in publishing, we were continually optimistic that relief was around the next corner. Where stability for our business is, we do not know yet. The only thing that is clear now is that we have not reached that destination. A fully digitized Voice archive will offer coming generations a chance to experience for themselves what is clearly one of this city’s and this country’s social and cultural treasures.”
The Final Print Issue (9/2017)
Piercing Ken Thoughts: Reports went on to reveal that in addition to the news that the company had terminated half of its remaining 20 employees with the rest working to digitize the paper’s enormous archives. Barbey acquired the paper in 2015 so hey, good on you for giving it a whopping three years. Having a print nowadays must be an uphill battle. Speaking frankly, I’m not sure how the digital archive is going to be received and if we will even be able to click the domain and find result after the coming weeks. I don’t look back on any reference materials other than Wiki pages or the dictionary for the most part and as far as physical editions, those days are over for me. Everyone is different and while I missed the sight of the newspaper on the stands for some weeks after the final one that you see in my photo from last years news I got over it and moved on. I will miss the existence of “The Voice” as a media entity because they did more good than not. I’m sad that I never tried to contribute to it as a notch on my own media belt but what can you do. We live in different times and the idea of casually leafing through a physical newspaper or deeply into a websites archive are alien terms to the youth of today. I read where we now have less of an attention span than a goldfish. Theirs is 12 seconds while ours is 8.5 seconds. Pretty amazing isn’t it.
Goodbye Village Voice I hardly knew ye. Thanks for the years of different journalism and features that kept NYC talking and a little more vibrant. If any of my friends had content in there I would scan it or copy paste the website pages into their own blogs just in case. I say this as someone who once counted on all his old “Metal Edge” content getting digitized and well…..let’s not go there.
