The New York Philharmonic Cancels All Previously Scheduled Concerts Through June 2021

The Press Release:
If the world hadn’t changed, the New York Philharmonic would have opened its subscription season and by now been well into our live concert schedule. We all know why that simply wasn’t possible. I cannot begin to tell you how much the musicians, Jaap van Zweden, and the entire “Phil family” miss you and our shared communal experience of a live concert.

Today we share news that we did our best to avert, but reality has intervened. Due to mandatory state and city government health regulations, the Philharmonic will not be able to resume live, indoor concerts in January as originally hoped. With deep regret, all previously scheduled concerts from January 6 to June 13, 2021, must now be cancelled. In the 178-year history of our institution, the cancellation of an entire season marks a historic first, and a dreadful one at that. If you are disappointed, please know how devastated we all are by this turn of events. The health and financial challenges, indeed the experiential challenges we all face, are profound.

The Metropolitan Opera Cancels Entire 2020-21 Season

A Message to Our Audience:
We regret to inform you that the Metropolitan Opera has made the extremely difficult decision to cancel the entirety of the 2020–21 season, based on the advice of health officials who advise the Met and Lincoln Center. Because of the many hundreds of performers who are required to rehearse and perform in close quarters and because of the company’s large audience, it was determined that it would not be safe for the Met to resume until a vaccine is widely in use, herd immunity is established, and the wearing of masks and social distancing is no longer a medical requirement. Health officials have said this will likely take at least five to six months after a vaccine is initially made available. We want nothing more than to get back to creating operatic magic as only the Met can, but the safety of our company and the audience we serve must come first.

In the meantime, we are pleased to be able to announce the Met’s 2021–22 season, which will open September 27, 2021, with the Met premiere of Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut up in my Bones—the first opera by a Black composer to be performed at the Met. Please take a moment to watch a message from General Manager Peter Gelb about the cancellation and the ambitious artistic plans for the 2021–22 season:

This Just In: EXXXOTICA NJ Postponed Due To COVID-19

The Press Release:
This year has been unlike any other in any of our lives. EXXXOTICA is supposed to be a celebration and we were looking forward to closing our show year off with our lauded New Jersey event as we have for the past 12. But, 2020 has not been cooperating with anyone, and while we pushed off the inevitable decision with never-ending optimism, it is through tears of sincere disappointment that we must announce the postponement of EXXXOTICA New Jersey slated for October 23-25 at the New Jersey Expo Center in Edison. At this time, with current restrictions in the state that the Governor has in place, as well as the safety of everyone involved with EXXXOTICA, it is impossible to produce this year’s show in New Jersey.

Some have asked us if we would consider doing a virtual EXXXOTICA, and while we appreciate everyone’s eagerness as it pertains to our event, the idea of a virtual adult consumer show is, to be completely honest, stupid. EXXXOTICA is a living, breathing thing, and only works when we’re all together. You just cannot replicate the live experience, and we would never try. It’s like turning a wild mustang into My Little Pony. A Prius into a Formula One race car. Trump and Biden into BFFs. It just ain’t gonna happen. And like our elders always say, “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.”
