The Announcement:
Due to historic temperatures in New York this weekend, the City of New York has canceled OZY Fest. The National Weather Service issued an “Excessive Heat Warning” through Sunday, which happens when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 105 degrees or greater.

“The health and safety of New Yorkers is our most important concern, and we are left with no other option but to cancel all large-scale park events throughout New York City Saturday and Sunday. We are working hand-in-hand with OZY and others to make this as smooth a process as possible,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.

After reviewing all options with the City of New York and its supporting agencies, it was determined that it would be impossible to move the event to an alternate location this weekend. “We absolutely cannot put any festival-goers at risk. We are so disappointed, and we hope to work with the City of New York in the future,” said OZY CEO Carlos Watson.

All tickets will be refunded. More information about refunds is available here.

Piercing Ken Thoughts: As I write this it’s Friday evening and its still really hot out there. I mean in the high 80’s and its dark. Today was brutal and ran up to about 106 according to my phone and for the weather folks on NY1 to say it would be hotter, this cancellation is a very good thing since a lot of people would be at risk. I wasn’t going to this one and am instead going to be at the NY Empire State Tattoo Expo exploring the aisles and if the medium or just the art interest you as well you should consider joining me. I know there are tickets still available and you are able to get a tattoo onsite provided you are at least 18 years of age. I sure do hope the trains are running fine because my journey this weekend will only find me outside for three blocks or so and I can handle that in extreme heat for sure. Please know that when more news on a rescheduled OZY Fest come to light I will share it here provided I am made aware of it. Until next time and please stay hydrated this weekend.
