2nd Annual Japan Day Parade To Take Place May 13th

The Press Release:
Building on the great success of last year’s inaugural Japan Parade, the 2nd annual Japan Parade in New York City will be held on Saturday, May 13, beginning at 1PM. Starting on Central Park West at West 81st Street and traveling south to West 67th Street, the purpose of the parade is to celebrate, express, and bring awareness to the friendship between NYC and Japan with a thank you from the Japanese community. Olympic Gold Medalist, Founder of Always Dream, and Author Kristi Yamaguchi will be the Parade’s Grand Marshal.

This year’s Japan Parade will feature a live performance by the cast of The 2.5-Dimensional show from Japan, “Live Spectacle ‘NARUTO’”. NARUTO is one of the most internationally recognized and popular manga series of all time. The franchise has sold over 250 million copies worldwide to date. Written and illustrated by creator Masashi Kishimoto, NARUTO was first published in Shueisha’s magazine Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999, where it was serialized and ran for 15 years. More performers will be announced in the coming weeks. The Japan Parade is affiliated with Japan Day @ Central Park, an annual event that has taken place in Central Park since 2007.

Mayor de Blasio Unveils “We Love NYC: The Homecoming Concert”

Mayor Bill de Blasio, music industry legend Clive Davis, and Live Nation and NYCEDC chair Danny Meyer today announced the all-star lineup set to perform at the “WE LOVE NYC: The Homecoming Concert produced by New York City, Clive Davis and Live Nation” on the Great Lawn in Central Park on Saturday, August 21.

This historic, once-in-a-generation concert, presented by Anheuser-Busch, Citi® and Expedia®, in Central Park will feature an array of music icons and contemporary artists spanning musical and entertainment genres including: Jon Batiste, Andrea Bocelli, Kane Brown, LL COOL J, Elvis Costello, Lucky Daye, Earth, Wind & Fire, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Cynthia Erivo, Jimmy Fallon, Jennifer Hudson, Wyclef Jean, Journey, The Killers, Gayle King, Don Lemon, Maluma, Barry Manilow, The New York Philharmonic, Polo G, Carlos Santana, Paul Simon, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Rob Thomas

Thank you for your continuous support to Japan Day @ Central Park 2020.

In light of the ongoing situation concerning the novel coronavirus pandemic, after much consideration, we have regrettably come to the decision to postpone the Japan Day @ Central Park 2020 (Japan Day Parade and Festival) event, currently scheduled for May 10, 2020, to a later date in the year (currently anticipating the fall).

CANCELLED: Japan Day @ Central Park

Due to the growing concerns about the Coronavis Pandemic and the ban on large public assembly, this year’s Japan Day at Central Park celebration has been cancelled. The organizers hope to have more information about a future event so stay tuned to their website which is linked in this listing.

It is Japan Day in NYC once again. Come out to Central Park and enjoy a day of culture from the Land Of The Rising Sun.

IMPORTANT: The OZY Fest in Central Park Is CANCELLED!!!

You might remember our recently discussing this weekends OZY Fest (seen HERE in case you don’t). Sadly, the city has opted to cancel the event based on the extreme heat that was forecast for the weekend. At last check the news reported in the hundred plus as a real feel. Read more down below.

The Announcement:
Due to historic temperatures in New York this weekend, the City of New York has canceled OZY Fest. The National Weather Service issued an “Excessive Heat Warning” through Sunday, which happens when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 105 degrees or greater.

“The health and safety of New Yorkers is our most important concern, and we are left with no other option but to cancel all large-scale park events throughout New York City Saturday and Sunday. We are working hand-in-hand with OZY and others to make this as smooth a process as possible,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.
