I must apologize for getting to this past its release date but as the saying goes “better late than never” and especially considering just how awesome this particular collectible is. Yes my friends, there is a Barbie David Bowie fashion doll to add to your collectible shelf. In my humble opinion this is the perfect companion to the recently discussed Barbie x X-Men (seen HERE) and Barbie x Star Wars (seen HERE). Take a look down below for additional details on this must have item.

The Scoop:
Barbie is honoring David Bowie’s legacy of fearless reinvention with a collectible Barbie as Bowie doll, dressed as one of Bowie’s most influential and beloved alter egos, the extraterrestrial androgynous glam rock icon, Ziggy Stardust. The doll will be styled in full early ‘70s Ziggy regalia, including a metallic ‘space suit’ with red and blue stripes, flared shoulders and cherry-red platform boots. The dramatic look is complete with Ziggy’s astral sphere forehead icon — and a hairstyle inspired by Bowie’s fiery-red locks. With a shared passion for innovation, Barbie and David Bowie’s mutual impact on contemporary culture make the David Bowie x Barbie the ultimate collectors item for fans of either or both.

Piercing Ken Thoughts: Now while I am not one prone to collecting these types of dolls despite my snagging the occasional superhero action figure every now and again, I have to say that this is absolutely awesome. I grew up loving the music of David Bowie and it remains special in the years past his leaving this plane. Combining his iconic look from the Ziggy era with the world’s most famous doll was a terrific idea and only opens up the playing field to additional eras. Perhaps we will find a “Fashion” or “Young Americans” era being represented in the future. It’s priced to purchase as you can see down via the Amazon.com link down below. This might be more for the collector’s shelf than to open up the box and play with but its your money so do as you wish. What do you think of this item? Chime in down below and let me know what you think.

The David Bowie Mural Reminds Us Of Loss On The LES

The great David Bowie has been gone for a couple of weeks now and in addition to the throngs of fans showing up at his former place of residence not too far from where I snapped these photos, the proprietors of The Graffiti Room (a Ramen Shop on the corner of Kenmare Street and Mott Street) have lent their wall to this stunning mural. I took a wander over to the murals location since I was heading into the city for a Metal concert. After seeing it on a friends Instagram I knew I had to have my own photograph of the work.

The location is a short walk from the N, R, D, F, and 6 trains so do be sure to see it with your own eyes before it should go away. As nice as it is, nothing in NYC remains forever these days. While I was there I ended up taking some photos of passerby who wanted to be in their own shot but they had no selfie stick to get a proper full view. I didn’t mind and then when one asked if they could do one for me. I felt “why not” but as you can see I was not in the mood for smiling since the musical void that Bowie left behind was still resonating in my mind. This one hurt and our new year was not off to a good start with the loss of such a talent. Anyway, do make sure you see this mural in person while you can and should you like to see some of the visuals that I captured in front of his former residence you can click on THIS LINK.
